Please use this handy envelope guide to choose the correct envelopes you may require. There are many more sizes but these are the most popular sizes.
Envelopes come in variable weights, Light Weight 75gsm and 80gsm, Standard weight 90gsm and 100gsm and Heavy Weight 115gsm and 130gsm.
Envelopes come in three formats for sealing. Gummed (moisten and seal), Self Seal (Gum on both flaps then press together) and Peel & Seal (Peel of strip and seal).
Types of seal;
Gummed seal
Also referred to as “Lick & Stick”. The most common sealing method. Moisten the layer of adhesive along the envelope flap and close.
Self-Seal / Press-Seal
Contains a strip of gum on each flap which when pressed together form an instant bond.
Peel & Seal
Peel away the release tape from the flap to reveal a strip of gum and press down to form an instant bond.
Colour
Stock envelopes are either Manilla (brown) or White. Other colours can be ordered on request.
Windows on envelopes
The orientation used in the description below is with the flap at the top.
The window size is measured in millimetres in the format height x width.
Window position is measured in millimetres position is measured from the left-hand side or LHS for the horizontal distance, vertical distance from the bottom.
Type of envelopes
Board back
Hard backed envelopes are for sending items which need to remain flat.
Gusset
Expandable envelopes which are used to sending bulky documents.
Padded or Bubble Lined
Ideal for transporting fragile items.
Posting Envelopes
- The Maximum size of a letter would be 240 x 164 x 5mm. The suggested envelope types would be C5, C6 and DL with a max weight of 100g.
- The maximum size of a large letter would be 353mm x 250 x 25mm. the suggested envelope type would be C4 with a max weight of 750g.
- The maximum size of a small parcel would be 450mm x 350x 160mm. the suggested envelope type would be a padded envelope with a max weight of 2kg.
